Royal Bank volunteers releasing coho fry

In the spring, after a winter of incubation, the salmon fry are ready to join the real world. We usually realease coho salmon to Lynn Creek tributaries, as they spend up to one year in the stream. Also, they may imprint to that stream for the purpose of returning to spawn. Chum salmon leave for the ocean immediately, so we release them directly into Lynn Creek. This is always a good opportunity to involve the public in our hatchery. While releasing coho, we can make contact with home owners who live next to streams and alert them to the presence of fish, and of the sensitive nature of the streams. Many volunteers help to distribute the fry to streams throughout Lynn Valley.
